- Pikea and her twin brother are born . Her mother dies and so foes her brother during birth. Pijeas grandfather is outraged due to the fact that his son doesnt want to become the cheif of the tribe and because of that he has no heir
- Pikea becomes intrested in moari culture and in becoming cheif even though her grandfather disapproves. She listens in to one if the lessons for the young boys/men that her grandfather has created a school for so that he can find a suitable cheif
- Her grandfather finds out and is outraged. Her nanny helps her in secret by bringing her to someone who can train her. To find a suitable cheif pikeas grandfather throws a whale tooth into the ocean and the boy who retreives it will be the cheif. When none of the boys are able to he jid outraged. Pikea manages to get it but doesnt tell him
