Storyboard Text

  • I will.
  • That was really cool Laura.
  • Thanks, so which one of you wants to go next?
  • It's aluminum that's see-through made from aluminum oxynitride.
  • So at my co-op I learned about transparent aluminum.
  • That sounds cool. What is it?
  • The material has a cubic spinel crystal structure which consists of oxides of aluminium, magnesium, chromium, iron, zinc, or manganese that occur in octahedral crystals.
  • Transparent aluminum is currently used in windows of army vehicles, in domes of heat seeking missiles as well as in windows of helicopters and other aircraft.
  • In the future it is possible that transparent aluminum will be used as cell phone screens, in banks and government buildings as well as in police cars and armoured bank vehicles.
  • That would be so cool, I would love to have a phone screen made with transparent aluminum.
  • Your turn Eli.
  • Ooooo sounds interesting!
  • Why yes of course. At my co-op I got the opportunity to learn about sugar based plastics.
  • Sugar based plastics are very interesting. They are biodegradable plastics made using sugar and carbon dioxide.
  • That's pretty amazing!!!
  • Some companies, such as Coca-Cola have already started using sugar based plastics to develop more environmentally friendly bottles.
