- In the beginning of the story Lizabeth appears to be a naughty kid. In the story it says that Joey, Lizabeth and her friends were excited to go annoy Miss Lottie because it is really fun.
- Towards the middle of the story she goes into her brothers room and tells her brother that she is going out. But before this she hears her parents talking in another room about how her dad didn't have a job. She had heard the tears of a man for the first time and it was her dad. She was furious and started on her way to Miss Lotties'.
- Once she gets to Miss Lotties' she starts destroying the Marigolds. She is sobbing while she is pulling at the Marigolds. But them suddenly a realization comes to her that what she is doing is foolish when Miss Lottie is standing in front of her. Lizabeth then claims that this is her last childish act.
