Hey kids! My name is Cameron, I'm taking this really fun and cool class called Intro to the Health Profession!!!
OOOooooooo, ahhhhhhh.
And I realized that many people don't know about all the different health professions, and that is a tragedy.
So, I decided to do something about it.....
So, follow me and I will tell you about a few of them!
The first is a medical transcriptionist, this is a person who takes notes during a doctor's visit and turns them into electronic notes
This is an important step in healthcare because having accurate records is crucial to a patient's treatment and care
l
Going to college is not required, but employers prefer to hire individuals who have a postsecondary degree in medical transcription
Not only this, but the job outlook is also expected to decline 7% in the next 10 years.
Medical scribes make on average $30,000 a year
Medical transcriptionists must be able to write and type very quick to keep accurate notes!
The next job we will look at is a registered nurse!
But if you do what the doc said and give each student an A, you will be just fine!
They record patients' symptoms and medical records, diagnose problems, and may even provide medication
Well Mrs. Pacioles, I see you are suffering from being too cool,
l
Nurse's make an excellent living, averaging $123,000 per year.
One good thing about being a nurse is it is a very broad field, so there are lots of options to explore what is best for you!
I'm so glad you asked Dr. Pacioles, follow me and I'll show you!
Very interesting Cameron! What are some other awesome jobs we can learn about?
His job is to make sure patients are getting the right and correct amount of medicine
Moving right along, this man here is a pharmacist.
The field of pharmaceutical's is expected to increase 2% in the next 10 years, so if you work hard there is room for you to succeed right now
Pharmacists make an excellent living, averaging $128,000 but as much as $164,000
Becoming a pharmacist will be hard work, they must complete 8 years of schooling and then pass the NAPLEX and the MPJE exams to become licensed
Let's see what our next career is....
This woman here is a physical therapist.
Her job is to oversee a person who has been injured or is impaired, and give them treatment and other recovery methods to help them improve physical mobility
l
The field itself is expected to grow 17%, which is much faster than normal. This means there is lots of room for employment as a PT
Physical Therapists make on average $95,000 per year.
Did you know that the field of physical therapy began in 453 BC in Ancient Greece. And it became a profession during WWI to rehabilitate wounded soldiers
Now, let's look at a different type of therapist, and how they are different...
Our next career is an occupational therapist. His job is to help children and adults develop motor skills to get through everyday activities.
Occupational therapists make a decent living, averaging about $61,000 per year
The good news is that the job market is growing at 14%, so there will be plenty of jobs available!
One cool thing about being an occupational therapist is since they are working on motor skills people will use on a daily basis, some prefer to work from the patients home setting!
I am a chiropractor, my job is to observe and adjust the patient's spine, nerves and administer treatment to the muscles of my patients
I make a decent living, averaging about $75,000, per year. Also, there is plenty of room for all of us, because the field is currently increasing by 10%
One neat thing about us chiropractors is we are considered primary care physicians!
This means we can create diagnosis and administer treatment and checkups to our patients
I am a dietician, my job is to analyze my patients diet and health problems, and create a meal plan for them to follow to benefit their health and improve their way of life
Dieticians make on average $61,000, which is not bad at all!
Ma'am, this kale and vinegar smoothie sucks!
But you're healthy, so shut up and enjoy it.
And in the next 10 years, there is expected to be a 7% increase in the job outlook
