  •         Japan Colonization
  • Oil and Steel Embargo
  • Pearl Harbor
  • Japan thought they could take over one of the U.S. islands.  So the U.S. stopped trading with them 
  • After The Attack
  • When Japan tried to take over one of the U.S. islands, the U.S. sent over troops and stopped trading things like oil with Japan.  This made Japan very angry.
  • FDR
  • Japan attacked Pearl Harbor with torpedo planes and ships.  Their objective was to hit the ships and destroy their planes.
  • Declaring War
  • Everyone was sad or angry.  People they loved had died and they were not prepared.
  • FDR was not happy after the Pearl Harbor attack.  Hundreds of people died.  When he spoke publicly for the first time since then,  he was trying to get the government to let him start war with Japan.
  • After being attacked, FDR and other Americans wanted to declare war, and they did.
