Storyboard Text

  • Hey Bill, I don't know about you, but I can't stand that us responsible firearms owners are not able to own assault style firearms for recreational use.
  • It's a real shame. We should be able to own more firearms like in America instead of people making laws about what they don't understand. I will tell my MP about this.
  • House of Commons
  • I would like to propose a bill to make certain previously prohibited firearms such as the ar-15, m-14, numerous handguns and other similar firearms classified as restricted, so they can be owned by people with a license for restricted firearms and used for recreational activities such as use at firing ranges.
  • These are assault weapons, they have no use but to harm and kill others. That's why we introduced Bill C-21 and many guns were made prohibited.
  • You would only need a firearm to be bolt-action or single shot for hunting, anything else is unnecessary. Also, handguns are easy to conceal!
  • House of Commons
  • Many shootings such as the tragic Nova Scotia shooting have been done with illegally obtained firearms, so making these firearms available to law abiding gun owners is safe and reasonable.
  • People who own restricted firearms use them for recreational purposes, such as firing them at shooting ranges.
  • I agree. Only allow assault rifles to become legal with the right licenses.
  • Firearms Laws in Canada: From Prohibited to Restricted
  • We should change the bill so that previously prohibited handguns remain prohibited, so only assault style weapons will change.
  • Bill to Make Previously Prohibited Firearms Restricted
  • We would prefer more handguns become legal, but that doesn't have enough support.
  • First ReadingThe MP announces the bill, which is the to make assault style weapons and more handguns legal, which will be discussed at a different time.
  • The new bill is that ONLY certain assault weapons such as the ar-15 and m-14 will become available to people with a restricted firearms license, NOT handguns. Now we must vote.
  • House of Commons
  • Second ReadingMP's in the House of Commons discuss the bill and its pros and cons of these types of firearms being legal.
  • Yay!!!!
  • I, the Governor General, have signed the bill which is now a law.
  • Bill to Make Previously Prohibited Firearms Restricted
  • CommitteeSmall group of MP's look at more details of the bill and change it to not include previously banned handguns.
  • Third ReadingThe edited, new version of the bill is read to the House of Commons, and the MP's vote on it. The bill passes, and is then brought to the Senate, where it is eventually passed.
  • Royal AssentThe Governor General (who represents the Queen) signs the bill, which is now a law.By Colin McLeaming
