  • The third stage of Mexican independence took place in-between 1815-1821. During this time, the fight for independence started to decay and was maintained by small fights in Southern Mexico where Vicente Guerrero kept the spirit alive. People like Javier Mina also fought and died in attempts to keep the cause alive.
  • Let's do this!!!
  • Those stinky liberals, stealing MY AUTHORITY with their constitutions!
  • Can you calm down dear?
  • Soldiers call me crazy, but we're better of joining Guerrero's army and helping them with their independence, if want to keep our privileges.
  • Meanwhile in Spain, King Fernando VII help up his own fight against the liberals who upheld the Cadiz Constitution. The Spanish King had to accept the establishment of the constitution and of the courts, this lead to the Criollos retaking the fight for the Independence of Mexico.
  • Whatever you say boss!!
  • However, after the enactment of the Cadiz Constitution, which took away the privileges of those in charge of the military in the Americas, he changed his plan. Agustin Iturbide was the general commander of the south, tasked with defeating Guerrero's fight for independence.
  • Allies?
  • Allies.
  • The Acatempan hug occurred February 10 of 1821, it portrayed an act of reconciliation and accomplished the union between the viceroyal forces and the insurgents that sought independence. It also initiated the Plan of Iguala and the beginning of the "Ejercito Trigarante".
  • The principles of the Plan of Iguala were Mexican independence, maintaining the monarchy established by Fernando VII, making the catholic religion the sole religion, and equality of all social classes.
  • Iturbide signed the Plan of Iguala and on March 1st of 1821 he shared it with his troops, who claimed him as the commander of the Army of the Three Promises: Religion, Independence, and Union. The Ejercito Trigarante was founded with the goal of protecting and fighting for the objectives of the Plan of Iguala.
  • VIVA MEXICO, AN INDEPENDENT NATION!!!
  • In August of 1821 the Cordoba treaties, where the independence of Mexico as a constitutional monarchy was established, were signed. However, Spain didn't accept such treaties. Approaching this negative reaction, the Ejercito Trigarante entered Mexico City the 27th of September of 1821, consolidating their victory and signing the act of independence the next day.
