  • Let's go grab a seat and I'll try to explain
  • Hey Cory in my day we recorded songs on tapes, how's it work these days?
  • First they capture the singers voice by converting the analog sound into a digital recording by sampling it about a thousand times a second.
  • Another thing to know is that various audio formats compress the data in different ways
  • Ok but how are the samples stored?
  • Well each sample is stored as a binary number, you know ones and zeros
  • Right, but what do the binary numbers represent?
  • Each binary number represents the audio level for that sample
  • Ok that makes sense. Let's go listen to some tunes
