- Janie returns to Eatonville and her old friends want to know how she's been after she ran off with Tea Cake. She greets them but that all she does. Pheoby decides to go talk to her where Janie proceeds to tell Pheoby her backstory and how it all contributed to where she is now in life.
- Climax
- Janie marries Logan believing that with marriage comes loves. But she is unsatisfied with her dull husband and marriage. Janie has learned that love does not come with marriage so she decides to run off with Joe starks in hopes for a more exciting marriage and life.
- Falling action
- In Janie's first two marriages she thought she would find love and happiness but that was not the case, Logan was too dull and Jody was too oppressive. Leaving Janie feeling restless and felt unfulfilled. That was until she met Tea Cake where she fell in love with him and decided to marry him and leave Eatonville
- Resolution
- After all that love and happiness Janie has experienced with Tea Cake even if their relationship had a rocky start. It comes to an end when a hurricane blows through and Janie and Tea cake caught in it. During the storm, Tea Cake gets bitten by a rabid dog trying to save Janie and contracts rabies. Where he proceeded to go insane and tries to kill Janie.
- Because Tea Cake was threatening Janie's life she had no choice but to kill him. It hurt her deep inside to kill the only man she had loved. Janie had previously thought Tea Cake's death would be too much to handle but by deciding to save her life, she confirms what she has been looking for since her discovery under the pear tree. Janie clutches the dead Tea Cake and thanks for giving her the chance for loving service".
- After being found not guilty of Tea Cake's death and attends his funeral, Janie returns back to Eatonville where she is telling this story to Pheoby. Janie has finally found who she is and feels at peace because of the love she's found with Tea Cake.
