- "Piter Whats wrong?"
- The novel begins in the distant future with Paul's mother lady Jessica believing that Paul could be the Kwisatz Haderach (A male which who can see into the past and future). Paul is tested by the Reverand mother the leader of the Bene Gesserit (a group of female witches) to determine if he is a human or not by sticking his hand in a box of pain, by determining if he acts on his primal urge or on awareness, if he acts on primal instinct he will be killed, he acts on awareness and passes. Paul also speaks about a girl he has been having dreams about. House Atredies and house Harkonen swap planets and house Atreides arrive on Arrakis and it is revealed that Paul has been reciveing Mentat (A human-computer) training and he chooses to continue it. The members of House Atreides are Duke Leto, Lady jessica, Paul, Doctor Yeuh Thrufir Hawat and duncan Idaho.
- Climax
- The emperor feels as if Duke Leto and house Atreides are too popular amongst the other great houses and put his spot as emperor in jeopardy. To combat this he makes house Harkonnen and Atreides switch planets and gives house Atreides control over the most important planet in the Universe Arrakis (Arrakis makes a substance called melagne a spice/drug that grants the user superpowers). Whilst in control he gives House Harkonnen the job of destoying house Atreides. House Harkonnen plants a spy in house Atreides and tries their best to defeat house Atreides. House Harkonnenalso plans to overthrow the emperor and get the Barons nephew Feyd to be the next Emperor. The house of Harkonnen consist of The Baron, Piter, Feyd the Barons nephew and Glossu Rabban.
- Falling action
- "Treachery!" Feyd-Rautha shouted. "He's poisoned me! I do feel poison in my arm!"
- "Let him know his own moment of doubt , Paul thought. Let him suspect poison ."
- After arriving on Arrakis an assassination is attempted on paul in his bedroom and confronts his mother lady Jessica and they realize there is a traitor in house Atreides. Thrufir Hawat a Mentat believes that lady Jessica is the traitor and the house of Atreides is in dismay. One night after the Duke has worked tirelessly and discovers Doctor Yeuh has sabotaged them and has damaged the generators making them vulnerable to an attack and Duke Leto is shot with a paralysis dart. He reveals he wants to kill the Baron and only helped him because he held his wife captive, but it turns out he killed her so he double-crosses the Baron and helps out Duke Leto by arming him with a poison tooth that will kill those in a nearby radius and saves Paul and lady Jessica. It is revealed that Lady Jessica is the daughter of The Baron. The Baron soon arrives and the Duke uses the poison tooth but misses the Baron but kills his chief gaurd and his mentat.
- Resoltion
- "That you'll need no title. That woman over there will be my wife and you but a concubine because this is a political thing and we must weld peace out of this moment..."
- After escaping in a sandstorm Paul and Jessica meet up with a group of Freman (The natives of Arrakis) they enter their ranks and Paul finds the girl he has been having dreams about. After living on the landscape of Arrakis Paul and Jessica become addicted to the spice as it's in the air and is everywhere. Jessica drinks the water of life and becomes the Freman's new Reverand mother while pregnant with Duke Leto's daughter and Jessica and her unborn daughter gain all of the memories of past Reverand mothers. Two years pass and Jessica gives birth to her daughter Alia who is a fully functional person at the age of two. Paul now must ride a sandworm to become a true Freman and because many of the other Freman want him to become their new leader he succeeds but declines to become their leader.
- Paul envisions that a fleet of the emperor's and the Baron"s ships will arrive on Arrakis. Weeks pass and the ships eventually land and Paul and the Freman ambush their ships during a sandstorm preventing their escape. Jessica and Alia are captured but Alia outsmarts the Baron and kills him. Paul dukes it out with the Baron's nephew Feyd Reuthra and Wins easily due to him having access to all of his powers. The emperor defeated sends his second in command The count to attack Paul but declines because he was trained as a Kwisatz Haderach and knows the true power that Paul holds.
- Paul arranges a marriage with the Emperor's daughter and promises him that she will be his concubine while in reality, Paul keeps the girl he met on Arrakis Chai as his concubine. This makes Paul the heir to the throne and secures his spot in a place of incredible power in the universe.
