Do you know what total wellness is? Your total wellness is the overall well-being of your body, mind, and relationships with other. This is separated into physical wellness, mental/emotional wellness, and social wellness. Physical wellness is how you take care of your body. This includes exercise, nutrition, and hygiene. Mental/Emotional wellness is how you think, feel, and act. It helps determine how you handle stress and making decisions. Social wellness is how you interact with the people around you, including friends and family. These subsections of wellness create your total wellness.

  • Physical wellness is one of the most talked about types of wellness. It plays an important role in today’s society. This role is introducing people to total wellness. Examples of great physical wellness include getting at least eight hours of sleep, eating a balanced diet, regular activity 5 times a week for at least 1 hour, and good hygiene. You can improve your physical wellness by creating an exercise schedule, making meal plans, wash your hands, turning techoff at a specific time, etc. Mental/emotional wellness has begun to be more commonly talked about in today’s society (within the past few decades). This type of wellness includes disorders like depression, anxiety, bulimia, and anorexia. Many of these disorders are caused because of stress. To help you mental/emotional wellness, learn about how to handle stress, and which techniques work best for you. Some techniques include telling yourself everything will be okay, create a plan to manage time, put your priorities are in order, or focus on what you can control.
  • Social wellness is being able to understand and meet the needs of others as well as the ability to interact and listen to others. People with strong social wellness create opportunities for themselves and others to successfully enjoy and balance family, work, and play. To improve your social wellness try acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses, take responsibility for your mistakes, honoring your commitments, and taking care of yourself. Even if you only choose one thing from each category to improve on, your total wellness will increase. This is because you will be thinking about wellness. So, do a favor for your body and choose a few things to improve in you life to increase you total wellness.
