Storyboard Text

  • In the end, America declared war on Britain on June 18th of 1812.
  • There are problems at sea with Britain! There was the Chesapeake Affair, the paper blockade, and impressment is still a major issue!
  • There are problems with the Indians too! There was the Battle of Tippecanoe and Tecumseh and his Indian Confederation. It also appears that the British are backing them...
  • Whatever shall we do?
  • Battles raged on, including the Battle of Detroit and the burning of the White House.
  • In December of 1814 and January of 1815, the Hartford Convention was held. The Federalist party met to discuss their grievances about the War of 1812. In the end, the Federalist Party lost its power as a political party.
  • We have burned down the White House! Yay Britain!
  • There are former slaves and redcoats burning down Washington! They have set fire to the Capitol Building, and other government buildings.
  • In the end, the Treaty of Ghent was signed.

  • The war itself was a stalemate, and we will both end with the same land as we began. We have ended our alliance with the natives as well. We will also end our policy of impressment.
  • Natives
  • We have taken the brunt force of loss!
  • We will begin moving into the Midwest and Great Lakes. We did not accomplish our goal of getting Canadian land, but these new developments will begin paving the way for Manifest Destiny.
  • United States
  • In January of 1815, two weeks after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, Andrew Jackson and his forces fought with the British. There were two thousand British casualties in the battle, while there were well under one hundred on the American side. This is considered the most successful land victory for the United States by many, and was labeled the Battle of New Orleans.

  • We opposed the War of 1812 in the first place and therefore have many things to complain about!
  • You have lost a lot of popularity due to your views on the war. Therefore, you are not recognized as a political party anymore.
  • The war resulted in an increase in nationalism for the United States as well. Songs were written about the greatness of America, including the Star-Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. The world as a whole gave more respect as a viable nation to the US.
