Storyboard Text

  • The Battle of Velasco was the first fighting between Mexico and Texan settlers. the battle happened on June 26th 1832. The Texans fought the Mexican Army until the Mexicans had to surrender because they ran out of supplies.
  • The conflict at Anahuac started when Texans had been ignoring the Mexican officials that were sent into Texas. Since people kept ignoring the Law of April 6th, 1830, Mexico sent Colonel Juan Davis Bradburn to the Trinity River to establish a military outpost. William Travis and Patrick Jack were arrested by Bradburn so Settlers organized a rescue force of about 200 men who reached Turtle Bayou, on June 9th, 1832. this all started the battle of Velasco.

  • Some Texans who opposed the Mexican Government at Anahuac decided to write the Turtle Bayou Resolutions saying their support for General Santa Anna and the Federalists in Mexico City. After learning the Federalists, and General Santa Anna had won a significant victory in Mexico, the colonists wrote the resolutions because they wanted to win.
