  • 2. The best way to ensure a person receives an adequate amount of vitamins and minerals is by providing a wide variety of fresh foods from the five food groups.
  • 1. Vitamins and minerals are essential compounds for the well-being for our body.
  • 3. Two major categories of Vitamins are Water soluble vitamins and Fat soluble vitamins.
  • 4. Vitamin C is needed foe healthy skin, gums,teeth,bones and cartilage. It assists with absorption of some types of iron.
  • 7. Retinol is the scientific name for Vitamin A and some food sources are full cream dairy products and oily fish.
  • 5. B3 (niacin) helps control cholesterol levels.
  • 6. Folate prevents neutral tube defects in early pregnancy.
  • 9. The deficiency in vitamin D can cause rickets, which increases the chance of a child having fractures.
  • 8. Vitamin K is responsible for the clotting if one’s blood.
  • 10. Calcium is essential for building healthy bones and teeth.
  • 11. Iodine helps brain function and normal growth. We can get bread and seaweed from iodine.
  • 12. A rich source of iron can prevent us from getting anemia.
  • 13. Sodium/Salt controls nerve impulse transmission and helps maintain water balance.
  • 14. Phosphorus works alongside with calcium and helps the body to store and use energy and can be found in eggs, yeast, meat and milk.
  • 15. Chromium plays a role in controlling blood sugar levels.
