- Gunpowder was first discovered in the 9th century by Chinese Monks, it was first used by people seeking immortality and was then used in cannons on castles. Gunpowder is a mixture of saltpeter, sulfur and charcoal. It is used as a propellant for guns, cannons, and other explosives.
- Gunpowder is a thin powder so when it burns it burns quickly causing heat and hot gas to be released very quickly the energy from this releases the gunpowder causing a visual explosion and the bullet or cannon ball to be released.
- Gunpowder has gone from being used in cannons to used in guns. Today gunpowder has commonly been replaced with cordite. Cordite is a smokeless propellant and is commonly used in military propellant. Gunpowder can help us because it can be used in rockets and artillery.
