Wellllll okay, I don’t have superhuman strength or the ability to fly, which would be awesome!!! But I actually get my superpowers from my Autism Spectrum Abilities.
My autism spectrum abilities come from a disorder called autism spectrum disorder which affects how I interact with other people and the world around me, how I communicate with others and how I learn and process information.
The term “ spectrum” just means that like every other kid in the world, kids with autism are different and have a range of their own unique abilities and challenges. For example: some kids are non-verbal meaning they don’t use their words to communicate but may sometimes use big words, but overall kids on the spectrum have some form of communication delay.
Another example would be the way kids with autism react to sensory input like touch, smell, taste, and hearing. Some kids under react (hyposensitive) or overreact (hypersensitive) towards these senses and its because we have trouble with sensory information.
Ok now to the cool stuff! So everyone knows that every superhero has a special team to help them with their daily missions… My special team consists of a speech therapist, physical therapist, ABA therapist and my favorite: an Occupational Therapist! (Wink) but don’t tell the others.
