The falling action in this chapter is when Dimmesdale refuses Chillingworth medicine and drugs. Dimmesdale believes that he has sold his soul to the devil. Dimmesdale begins writing his new election sermon.
In this chapter there is no resolution but the story ends with Dimmesdale writing his new sermon.
A quote from this chapter is on page 349, paragraph 2, When Dimmesdale says, “ Have I gone crazy? Or have I given my soul to the devil? Did I make a deal with him in the forest and sign it with my blood?” This quote is another example of how Dimmesdale is guilt-ridden.
