Storyboard Text

  • Uhm, why are you wearing a superhero costume?
  • I wanted to show everyone how strong I was. I am invincible!
  • Invincible, huh. Well, does this hurt?!?
  • OWWW!!!
  • You can't be invincible. You have your nervous system!
  • What's the nervous system?
  • The nervous system is a complex of nerve cells and fibers that send nerve signals throughout the body. Neurons, masses of nerve cells, are the main part of this system and transmits the information. The nervous system is what makes you feel things, like how I just pinched you.
  • Tell me more!
  • Your nervous system is separated into two parts: the central and peripheral nervous system. There are many different types of cells in both of these systems. Oligodendrocytes make up the myelin sheath that provides the axon insulation in the central nervous system. Like Oligodendrocytes, Schwaan''s cells make up the sheath in the peripheral nervous system.
  • Woah, that's cool! Are there any other cells?
  • Yeah! There are Ependymal cells that form membranes around tissues. There is also microglia that plays the immune role. It digests debris and kills bacteria. Lastly, there are astrocytes that connect blood vessels to neurons. Scientists also named it after its shape, which is like a star.
  • Wow! There are so many things. I guess they are cooler than being invincible...
