- The author tries to lead us in the wrong direction by making it sound like the story will end like a love story.
- young and so much in love that you practically zoomed everywhere.
- "She passed on her way, thinking: He's in love."
- The author makes it sound like the main character is in love and harmless, leading the reader to get a false impression of the man.
- The author is trying to make the reader believe that the man knows the lady when in reality she is a stranger
- 'Norma!' he said.
- This is foreshadowing the later event of the main character being the hammer murderer
- The radio poured out bad news that no one listened to: a hammer murderer was still on the loose;
- This is foreshadowing that he is the hammer murderer by hinting to the reader that the man is hiding something important to the story in his pocket.
- He reached into his coat pocket and touched the something in there again.
- She looked up and smiled. . . but as they drew together, the smile faded.
- This foreshadows how she doesn't know the man and that something bad might happen
