- The main characters of The Face on the Milk Carton are Jaine Johnson, Frank Johnson , Miranda Johnson, Mr. Spring and Mrs. Spring.
- Janie stares at the picture on the milk carton. Its a picture of her when she was three years old. Janie tells her friends that the picture on the carton is her. They all laugh and don't believe her, but Janie knows it's true. Janie suddenly thinks, "I was kidnapped."
- Janie figures out that the people she thought were her parents for her whole life have actually kidnapped her.
- Janie must find a way to escape the basement that they are keeping her.
- She later finds out that the people who she thought were her parents her whole life where actually her grandparents.
- Janie is reunited with her family.
