Storyboard Text

  • When Elie and his father arrive at the camp, it is crowded with other prisoners. They are met with fighting and yelling. Elie imagines this must be what hell is like. This affected Elie because instead of being supportive, the other prisoners beating him.
  • Elie's father tells him it's better to look weak in front of the guards. Elie thought he should look strong, but because his father told him not to it kept them safe together.
  • Elie's friend tells him he made the mistake of showing his strength to the guards. They made him work in the crematorium where he had to put his father in the fire.When Elie's friend told him this, he was grateful his dad had warned him about showing strength.
  • Why aren't you helping us God?
  • Elie and his friend are happy to see each other. This affected Elie because it brought them joy to know they are alive.
  • The prisoners are stripped of their clothing and hosed down by the guards. This was a frightening time for Elie. He started losing himself to the situation.
  • Elie wonders where God is in this place. This affects him because Elie doesn't understand why He is letting this happen to His people. Elie is losing his faith.
