Storyboard Text

  • When John found out, he separated us and made us divide our work in half. By 1953, we both discovered that both types of DNA that we were studying, both had a specific structure of DNA molecules
  • Francis Crick and James Watson, other researchers were also trying to find the structure of DNA. They were very worried when Linus Pauling also started looking, so Watson came and asked me to work with him. The conversation did not end well and he and Wilkins later became friends. Wilkins showed him my research and this helped Watson finally be able to accurately build a 3-D model of DNA
  • After King's College, I went to Birkbeck College where I led a team in researching the molecular structure of plant viruses, specifically the tobacco mosaic virus. But, in 1958, I died at 37 because of ovarian cancer.
  • In 1962, James Watson, Francis Crick andMaurice Wilkins got Noble Prizes for discovering the structure of DNA. Even though my research contributed a lot, no one remembered me because I was dead. But, a member of the plant virus team continued the research and he won a Noble Prize. If I had still been alive, I would have gotten the Noble Prize alongside him.
