- I told them not to play in the church!
- Dally, Pony-boy, and Johnny were at the dinner. Johnny was asking if his parents asked about him and Pony-boy kept talking about Cherry. Why would she want to help? Dally just sat back and told the answers. The ones he had at least.
- Pony-boy and Johnny told Dally they wanted to turn themselves in, Dally diagreed and said it was a terrible idea. They continued to talk about cherry and how she wanted to help. Then they got to the church as were in for a shockers. They got out the car a froze when they saw what was happening.
- A lady passed them and said I told them not to play in the church! There was a fire going on! Pony-boy tried going in but an old man said stop and that he would get the kids. That didn't stop Pony-boy. Hastily Pony-boy ran as fast as lightning inside the church thinking to himself- we started it.
- I thought I lost you Pony-boy
- Pony-boy was as brave as a lion. Johnny followed in after him. They went to look for the kids in the back and found them in a room in the corner. One by one they eluded the kids out. They heard Johnny scream, Pony-boy tried to go back but Dally swore at him then hit him on the back. Then Pony-boy heard sirens.
- Slowly and softly, Pony-boy opened his eyes and felt he was moving, he thought to himself- Are they taking me too jail? He tried to speak but where was all he could say. He heard a voice say take it easy kid, Your in an ambulance. He asked where Johnny and Dally was. The stranger said in another ambulance. The stranger told Pony-boy that Dally hit him in the back because it was in flames, but Pony-boy didn't feel it.
- Where?....
- Pony-boy went to the hospital and got checked out and made sure everything was ok. He went to the waiting room expecting Johnny and Dally to be there but in surprise he was tightly hugged by Soda-pop. He was standing at the doorway, crying. Ponyboy finally realized that Darry did love him, the last time Darry cried was at their parents funeral.
