  • The wounded knee massacre was a successful attempt to wipe out numerous amount of Native American people to effectively lessen their influence in the United States of America. Some say that the after seeing the ghost dance, white Americans were frightened and threatened by this sacred ritual in which the reason for this massacre was to stop this ritual. Around 300 Lakota Indians were slaughtered on December 29, 1890.
  • The Dawes Act of 1887 effectively allowed the US governement the ability to take and divide land that was onced owned by the Native American people.
  • With the discovery of gold in the Western areas of the United States and the Dakotas. Americans were quick to seize their moment and strike gold. In their path they carried sickness and destroyed sacred Native American Land. They also treated Natives harshly either killing them or chasing them away.
  • The Red River war was a huge example of the slow deterioration of Native American Influence in the Great Plains. The Red River War was a military campaign created to flush out Native American tribes like the Comanche and Kiowa of the Southern Great Plains in 1875.
