- In early 1776, most Americans still wanted to avoid a final break from Britain. Common Sense(Thomas Paine)- A complete break from Britain was necessary

- A series of smaller battles have been fought between the British and Americans, Americans have lost every single battle October 1777- Battle of Saratoga European nations decided to help Americans in its struggle for independence

- - Americans were able to defeat the British because of battle tactics used to overpower them- Then the British surrendered causing the Americans to win the Battle of Yorktown
- - It officially ended the Revolutionary War- Made the United States independent- The boundaries would be the Mississippi River on the west, Canda on the North, and Spanish Florida on the South
