- Henry was a very powerful King. However, there was one group he couldn't control: and that was the church.
- that wicked man is surely up to no good

- Henry had a close friend and advisor called Thomas Becket. Henry made him his Chancellor.

- At the time, the church had its own courts and Henry wanted to make some "changes". He hoped that his friend will be able to help him.
- When the top job in the church came up, Henry made Becket Archbishop of Canterbury. This meant that Becket was in charge of religion in England.
- Turn out, Becket became very religious did not want to help Henry weaken the Church at all! This led to a big argument
- After the argument, Becket ran away to France and didn't come back for 6 years.
