  • Political Perspectives
  • Good morning everyone and welcome to "Political Perspectives!" Today I am here with my good friend, Voltaire. Thank you for being here today, Voltaire!
  • My pleasure!
  • Political Perspectives
  • So, Voltaire, what rights do you think ordinary people should have?
  • I believe that everyone should have equal rights, and that everyone should be treated equally. I also believe that people should have religious freedom.
  • Political Perspectives
  • What else do you think about religion?
  • I think the Church should not control the government. I do not think the people should be controlled by religion. I think they should be free to believe whatever they want to.
  • Political Perspectives
  • I think the government should not be able to abuse their power. I also think the government should be liberal, meaning individuals have rights, and they should be separate from the Church. Also, the government should not be able to use cruel or violent punishments.
  • What do you think about the government and their control?
  • Political Perspectives
  • You have written some popular books and works including your most popular book, Candide. How are these books going to keep your beliefs known for years to come?
  • Well, my works have been reproduced and lots of people already know and will know my thoughts. Also, some leaders including those of Prussia and Russia have changed their society based on my teachings.
  • Political Perspectives
  • Thank you for being here today!
  • Finally, I wanted to ask you what you think about the views of another philosopher, John Locke?
  • John Locke and I have a lot in common! We both believe the government should not be able to abuse their power. We also both believe in equal rights and laws. I am a deist, which means I believe God does not play a role in everyday life, and John Locke dos not believe in Divine Right, so we both believe the Church should not control the government.
