- Haiti is located right on the boundary of the north American plates and Caribbean plate.An earthquake like the one in 2010 had not happened in over 200 years.
- The earthquake hit Haiti at a magnitude of 7 at 4:53. The main earthquake was soon followed by magnitude 5.9 and 5.5 earthquakes.
- Around 200,000 people died in Haiti during the earthquake due to building not being built properly due to poor building regulations and code.Things like rebar not being connected properly to foundation not being level, this all contributed to the destruction of these buildings
