- EXPOSITION
- Hazel Grace Lancaster, 17, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Even though an experimental medication has delayed the spread of her cancer, Hazel is aware that her time on earth is finite. Because of the lung cancer, she has very limited breathing and needs to use tubes and a portable oxygen tank to breathe.

- CONFLICT
- Hazel befriends a boy named Augustus Waters. Hazel prevents to be romantically bonded with him to save him from the tragedy of breaking his heart because of her anticipated death.

- RISING ACTION
- Because they both love Peter Van Houten's novel An Imperial Affliction, Hazel and Augustus become closer. They write to Van Houten to learn about his unfinished ending, and when he refuses to tell them, they plan a journey to see him.

- CLIMAX
- Despite being disappointed by Peter Van Houten in Amsterdam, Hazel and Augustus' bond grow closer as a result of the trip. They agreed to being in a romantic relationship with Augustus only to learn that his cancer has returned and cannot be treated.

- FALLING ACTION
- Augustus and Hazel even grew closer together. Hazel took care of Augustus very well especially how he felt in pain and anxious about the results of his physical examinations.

- DENOUEMENT
- Hazel and Augustus decide to move-in together. It turns out that Augustus had a false alarm and he is completely healthy. They take care of each other very well having to share a lot of love, bond, and passion.
