  • Rise of The Roman RepublicA story told by a Plebeian.
  • There has got to be a way to fix this!!
  • This isn't fair!!
  • This will be a great place to stay until the Patricians realize what they did.
  • Rise of the Roman Republic. A story told by a Plebeian.
  • You do not deserve power!!!
  • Finally!!!!!!! We get power!
  • In 509 BCE, we are in our homes talking about how the Patricians are able to control us. I am so upset because we aren't able to do anything anymore. No matter what, we have to obey the Patricians decisions. We also have to follow their laws that they often change to benefit themselves.
  • Ugh.
  • One of the two consuls must be a Plebeian.
  • The Patricians were so annoying because they could just control us. To try and fix this, in 494 BCE, we left the city and headed to a hill we had seen. We were hoping the Patricians would finally give up so we could head back and finally gain power. Not very long later, we finally headed back to Rome and gained what we had wished.
  • We have citizenship!!
  • When the we got back to Rome, the Patricians were upset. Rome was put in a crisis without us being there to be soldiers. The higher ranks changed the laws and gave us Plebeians some power after 200 years. In 451 BCE, the Patricians agreed to write down laws on tablets called the Twelve Tables.
  • In 367 BCE, a new law was stated that one of the two consuls must be a Plebeian. We were so excited for this to finally be happening. Since former consuls had seats in the senate, this also meant that we were able to be senators. All the Patricians wanted was to be able to control us and now they couldn't which was great for us.
  • In 287 BCE, we got the right to pass laws as Roman citizens. Since we were considered citizens now, we had Plebeian assemblies that could nominate consuls, tribunes, and member of the Senate. Also, the number of the rest of the Plebeians who were by the Patricians in the Senate keeps increasing. After all of the struggle, it was totally worth it.
