Long ago, Jesus finished teaching and told the crowd to leave. He had decided to make the disciples get onto a boat and go ahead of him to the far end of the lake.
Far away the boat was being rocked side to side by the waves and the wind.
Once the boat had set adrift, Jesus started climbing the mountain to pray to God. It was already late into the afternoon. Jesus had prayed for so long that the sun started to rise and the moon and stars started to slowly fade away.
He had finished praying and decided to visit his disciples on the other side of the lake. Jesus walked on the lake towards them! The disciples spotted him from afar but were frightened because they never saw someone walk on water before.
“It’s a ghost!” They cried out in fear. But Jesus said to them “Take courage! It is me. Do not be afraid.” The disciples were confused but they had calmed down. “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter asked, “Tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” Jesus replied. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking on water towards Jesus.
Peter felt a large gust of wind, he became scared and started to sink. Peter cried out “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached his hand out to help save Peter. Jesus said to Peter “You ” “why did you doubt me?”. Then he climbed into the boat, and as he did the wind calmed. The others in the boat praised him saying, “Truly you are the Son of God”.
