  • Jimmy followed the instructions...
  • …and fell asleep.
  • Jimmy woke up with a burst of energy and immediately started asking questions. His parents were already there waiting for him to wake up. Apparently, they wanted to test if it worked...
  • DID IT WORK?! DID IT WORK!?
  • We actually came to check on you and test!
  • All of a sudden Jimmy's parents loudly commanded him to clean his room. Then something unusual happened, instead of ignoring his parents, Jimmy felt a sudden urge to clean...
  • JIMMY CLEAN YOUR ROOM!!!
  • Jimmy's room was clean in ten minutes! Everyone was in shock! No one could believe their eyes! His room was absolutely spotless, and the wooden floor and furniture were all polished.[sensory detailed] The smell of cleaning chemicals was still in the air.[sensory detail]
  • Ever since that day, Jimmy was never lazy again. Not only did his house stay clean, but his grades at school also got better because he always did his work. His parents were so happy! All of this happened just from Jimmy thought about others and got his priorities straight.
  • Hi There! My name is Steven Gutierrez, writer, and illustrator of Lazy Jimmy. There were many reasons why I wrote this book, but the main one was to think about others and consider their side. Many times it can be easy to ignore everyone but yourself. You might make this little bubble around you where all you are focused on is you and your problems. When you do this, there is a much higher chance of ignoring someone else's problems and being unfair. Therefore, the theme of this story is to consider others. When I was the same age as Jimmy, I was very unreasonable. At the age of nine, it can be very easy to become frustrated easily and unfairly. This was an age my sisters were difficult to deal with too. It was an age where I could look down on younger kids, but I wasn't old or mature at all. This led me to be blind to how unreasonable I acted at the time. I would many times do things like Jimmy and procrastinate, and give my parent's a hard time. This would really stress out my parents. Now that I'm older and still learning, I can clearly see that it is important to take other parties into consideration as Jimmy ends up doing.
