  • Anarchy: A situation in which there is now the government, usually takes place after a civil war when the government has been destroyed and rival gangs are fighting for power. Anarchists are people who believe that government is bad and people should be free and able to organize their own lives.
  • Dictatorship: This government is run by one person who is the dictator, but they don't really use that name. Power is taken by force and backed up by the military, after the leader loses power or gets overthrown the country falls into a civil war.
  • Totalitarianism: Government controls every part and aspect of citizens' lives, citizens have a few rights if any at all. Also found in dictatorships and oligarchies. North Korea is an example of current-day totalitarianism
  • Theocracy: Government that runs on religious law, ruled by religious councils such as circles. Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the Vatican City are considered theocracy and so is the exiled administration of the Dalai Lama. Punishments for violating laws are usually harsh in some countries as they also violate religious laws.
  • Republic: Citizens make sure that the government takes care of them instead of their own benefit. The power of the government comes from the people. The first republic was in Rome because they didn't want to follow the king anymore. Kind of a direct/indirect democracy.
