  • Geography and Navigation
  • Arrrr!
  • Dad, why can't we see the stars?
  • The Start of it All
  • Let me try!
  • A Few Years Later
  • I can see so many shipwrecks here. Dad?
  • Once there lived a family of Muslim pirates who sailed every day and night.
  • A Hole in the Hull
  • Uh oh...I think this time we really hit a rock!
  • What? Oh. I don't know. Jack, hold the wheel for me, will you?
  • But dad! Why doesn't anybody know?
  • The captain had a son, Jack, and a daughter, Kate. While the captain taught his son how to drive his ship, Kate marvelled at the night sky, the stars, and the bright moon. This was because girls, unfortunately, weren't allowed to drive pirate ships.
  • One Problem Solved
  • But dad! How do you know which way to go? Maps aren't accurate because nobody knows how big the world is!
  • So you see, you hold the wheel like this, and you steer right and left.
  • Pirates just know, Kate.
  • Dad, did you hear that? I think the hull might have hit some rocks!
  • But one day, they ran into trouble. The map the captain was following was not accurate enough and the family ran into a rocky part of the ocean. To make matters worse, there was a terrible storm. They were no doubt lost, and in deep trouble.
  • Lost
  • Dad said we're lost. What will we do? Maps don't even help!
  • Jack, get the rope then help me steady the ship! Kate, keep watch for rocks ahead! I can bearly see through this storm!
  • The problem eventually occurred. The ship crashed into a boulder sticking out of the ocean. The rock made a gigantic hole on the side of the ship. The captain sent Jack down to patch it up before water could get through and sink the ship.
  • Dad? We have a huge hole in the hull!
  • Jack ran and covered the hole as fast as he could. He didn't want to sink that day.
  • That's great, son! The storm has also passed, so hurry back up!
  • I've got it, dad, don't worry!
  • The family was officially lost, due to the storm that swept them out to open seas.
  • We use this! It'll help us find the right way again.
