Storyboard Text

  • In 1945, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel. The Soviets controlled the north part with a communist regime, while the US controlled the south part with a capitalist regime.
  • On June, 1950, the North Korean Army made a surprise attack, invading the Republic of Korea. The North Korean Poeple's Army (NKPA) captured Seoul, South Korea's capital, due to their supperiority.
  • The United Nations condemned North Korean agressive acts and demanded the withdrawal of their troops form the South. Also the UN called upon their members to aid South Korea.
  • It is an act of agression!
  • US president,Truman, authorized the use of American land, sea, and air forces in Korea. The US, with the help of the United Nations, sent troops to aid South Korea and start a counteroffensive.
  • After few months of intense fighting, the center of the conflict was returned to the 38th parallel, where it remained until the rest of the war
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower, used the war's unpopularity in his favor for his presidential victory. After a few failed negotiations, and nuclear threats by Eisenhower, an armnistice agreement was signed on 1953 that ended the war. U.S. losses were placed at over 54,000 dead and 103,000 wounded, while Chinese and Korean casualties were each at least 10 times as high.
