  • Text to Text/Media: In the novel, Kenny and his little sister, Joetta are bundled up, and are mocked by the children at school. The connection to this book is from the 1983 movie, "A Christmas Story." Here, the main protagonist Ralphie's little brother, Randy is bundled up so much that Ralphie states that he looked like a tick about to pop.
  • Chapter 6: "Swedish Cremes and Welfare Cheese"
  • Yep. All you'll need to do is sign your name on this paper, and the groceries will end up on a bill.
  • Text to world: Since Kenny's friend, Rufus was poor, for a couple of days, Kenny would give Rufus his leather gloves. The website, World Vision.org states that about 9.2% of the world lives in poverty. This percentage is equivalent to 689 million people.

  • Byron didn't sign his name on the paper! Those are stolen!
  • Text to Text/Media: In the novel, Kenny's older brother, Byron was pretending to shoot a movie where he would set toy soldiers holding onto parachutes on fire, then flush them down the toilet. Byron wasn't allowed to use matches, but he did so anyways. From the television series, "The Simpsons" during the season four episode, "Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie," Bart is constantly getting into trouble, even when he was told not to.

  • Text to World: In this chapter, Kenny learns that his family is on Welfare. Here, whoever buys any groceries will need to sign their name on a sheet of paper, so the cost will end up on a weekly bill. On Policy Options.com it states that in Canada, 5% of people are on welfare, while on Fortunly.com, it states that 19% of Americans are on welfare.

  • Text to world: Once Kenny finds Byron at the back of the store, he sees him eating cookies. Then, Kenny realizes that the cookies Byron is eating are cookies that he didn't sign on welfare for, which is shoplifting. On Blue Water Credit.com, it states that one in eleven Americans are shoplifters.
