  • The French and Indian War began in 1754, but was not fought in South Carolina. Most Native Americans sided with the French
  • The war ended in 1763 because of the Treaty of Parris. Britain won, but this war led to the Cherokee war.
  • Summary/Effects: Ending in 1763, the French lost and it and Great Britain was left in debt. France lost possession of North America and Spain no longer had possession of Florida. For Great Britain, they had to end salutary neglect and their colonies had to pay taxes, leaving many colonists unhappy.
