  • How dare you taunt me!
  • I, whom all men call the great!
  • Do not ask to have everything your way. Your time for giving orders has passed
  • In scene 2  This shows Hamartia because he does not believe the oracle, so because he didn't believe in it he lost his eyes and Jocasta. If he had believed from the start things would have ended differently. All of this because he didn't believe in the prophecy leading to it being true and killing his father.
  • O, O, O, Light of the sun let me look upon you, cursed is my life!!!
  • In the prologue This shows Hubris in Oedipus Rex. This means that he thinks he is higher than everyone else. This causes him problems because he is blinded by his ego and this leads to fights later on
  • In the exodus Oedipus Rex shows Peripeteia in this scene because he is no longer the king and has no control over anyone.
  • O, o the pain! Where do my eyes take me? Darkness! Horror of darkness enfolding madness enfolding, madness and stabbing pain and guilt for my evil deeds!
  • In scene 4 Oedipus Rex shows Anagnorisis when he finally realized that the prophecy had been true. And that it had been fulfilled.
  • In scene 3 Oedipus Rex shows Nemesis and this is because in his efforts to escape the prophecy he only made it come true without even knowing it.
  • Once a prophecy said that I should lie with my mother and take the blood of my own father
  • In the exodus This shows Catharsis because Oedipus has stabbed his eyes in guilt of something he didn't do. Making the reader feel pity.
