In 1754 Great Britain urged the American colonists to sign a treaty with the Native American people after too many conflicts, wars and violence between them hoping to establish peace.
This treaty was called the treaty of Fort Stanwix since it was signed at Fort Stanwix. This treaty would improve the day to day life of the colonists, who would no longer have to worry as much about attacks on the crops and land.
The treaty involved the iroquois confederacy which was a league of six Native American tribes who inhabited New York State living between the Hudson River, St Lawrence and Lake Erie.
The iroquois were also known as the people of the longhouse. The longhouse was long house traditionally built by the Iroquois. The union created a powerful alliance of related Iroquois tribes and people.
The fives tribes consisted originally of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca tribes. The Tuscarora tribe joined the confederacy in 1722, and the collective tribes became known as the six nations.
The iroquois confederation affected the tribes lives by promoting justice and balancing of rights and obligations. As well as promoting peace, authority and power.
