Who is this person who rescued us, a Farm Girl? She did not rescue us!
This is the part of the story where LYddie returns to her house after working at the Cutler's Tavern for many months. Lyddie goes to her house, and enters through the window, as there are logs blocking the main door. When Lyddie enters through the window, she sees a black man sitting at the fire. Lyddie if fighting with herself, because she is thinking if she should turn in the man in. If she did, then she could get a 100 dollars which would clear her father's debt. This is character vs Self as Lyddie is fighting with herself because she is thinking of turning Ezekiel/the Black Man in or not. Lyddie also tells the black man later that she was going to turn him in and he understands.
This is the part of the story where Lyddie goes to Cutler's Tavern to work. She is going to work because she needs to pay off her father's debt. However, when she goes to work at the tavern, she meets her boss, who thinks that Lyddie is a poor person. However, when Lyddie tells her that she is the new girl, the boss, Mistress Cutler is shocked. She stares at Lyddie, and Lyddie stares back at her. Mistress Cutler begins to feel uncomfortable and leaves Lyddie. This is Person vs Person because it is Lyddie fighting with Mistress Cutler, who is the boss. Mistress Cutler doesn't like Lyddie and how she is not beautiful.
This is the part of the story where Lyddie is going to Lowell to work. She is not working at Cutler's tavern anymore because she was fired. This means that she has to work somewhere, and she is going to work in MA Mills. Lyddie is going to the mills by stagecoach, and on the way, the stagecoach is stuck in mud. The other passengers are trying to push the stagecoach out of the mud. The men couldn't do it, so Lyddie goes to help. Lyddie gets the heavy stagecoach out of the mud right away, and the other passengers are embarrassed that they were rescued by a farm girl. This is person vs society because Lyddie is a farm girl which was not respected during the 1800's. She has to deal with society, who believe that she is worthless and this is an example where the other passengers believe that she is worthless.
