  • Coming into college at Carroll, you are met with a set of requirements to complete your undergraduate degree and experience the Pioneer Core to its fullest extent.
  • These courses help to build on Carroll's four pillars of Knowledge: Integrated Knowledge, Lifelong Skills, Enduring Values, and Gateway Experiences.
  • Cross-Cultural Experience
  • Distributional Courses
  • Foundational Experiences
  • Senior Integration
  • Integrated Knowledge is built upon the foundations learned in CCS100 and ENG170 during a student's first year. These skills include learning to write and communicate ideas effectively, a useful set of skills throughout professional life. These courses allow the student to connect information learned in their major with general education courses, to create a more well-rounded educational experience and prepare the student for the wide range of information required to be successful in their given field.

  • Lifelong skills are created throughout the pioneer core. Skills such as critical thinking, working with others, communicating ideas, and knowledge of technology are an important part of a working environment. Taking courses in all distribution areas challenges a student to apply knowledge of all sorts to solve problems in these courses, work with classmates on projects and assignments, presenting ideas to peers and instructors, and use different types of technology to achieve a learning goal.
  • Lifelong Skills

  • Enduring values gives students the information to form strong personal belief systems. Students are given the information needed to make informed decisions and act based on their beliefs. This knowledge provides guidance in everyday decisions and throughout life.
  • Enduring Values
  • Gateway Experiences
  • Gateway experiences provide students with the opportunity to use what they have learned throughout the pioneer core , whether that is during a CCE, capstone course or other real-world application of knowledge.
  • Overall, the four pillars of knowledge at Carroll have created an applicable knowledge base and the tools that I need to be successful in my chosen field, graduate school and beyond. I have had the opportunity to grow knowledge in multiple different disciplines, creating a well-rounded academic background and the ability to use the knowledge I gained from my degree to succeed in my given profession.
