  • The Rise of the Roman Republic(Told by a Plebeian) By: Dhanvi Deepak
  • LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • ARE WE GOING TO LET THOSE PATRICIANS CONTROL US?!NO!!!!!!!!!!LETS GO TO THE HILL!!!!!
  • 509 B.C.E, Rome was a very interesting time, we thought it was going to be different, but little did we know it was going to be worse. Oops, sorry I should introduce myself, my name is Appius. I'm just a normal Plebeian. Now back to what I was talking about. The Patricians rebelled and drove out the last king we had. All the Plebeians thought we would get more freedom, but clearly that isn't what happened.
  • I guess you can have SOME rights.
  • Now we can't do anything. We just do all the work for the Patricians. The Patricians have all the power, even though it is suppose to be a republic. The Patricians are the only ones who can participate in government. I mean, HELLO were people too. Also since our laws were never written down, the Patricians would interpret them to benefit themselves. So we decided to unite and fight for what we wanted, so we started fighting for political rights. This created the Conflict of the Orders.
  • YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
  • WE HAVE RIGHTS!!!
  • It is currently 494 B.C.E all of us Plebeians are mad that we have little power so we decided to march out of the city and camp on a nearby hill, and we wouldn't come back until we get our rights. Since we were 95% percent to the population, the city probably won't survive a day. I'm pretty sure Rome will fall apart, and the Patricians will have no choice to agree. Hopefully it works.
  • Guess what? The Patricians agreed to allow us to elect officials called Tribunes of the Plebs. We could also elect a lawmaking body, the Council of Plebs. Even though we got some important rights, we still have less power than those awful Patricians. Some how we need to make things more equal. Now it's 451 B.C.E, and the Patricians agreed we us tp to write down the laws so the Patricians can't them when they want to.
  • It's currently 367 B.C.E, and a brand new AMAZING law started that one of the two consuls must be a Plebeian. This is a very big step in the right direction. Also this law allowed us to become senators. How amazing is that?! It is now 287 B.C.E , this is a very special year, do you know why? WE EARNED THE RIGHT TO PASS LAWS FOR ALL ROMAN CITIZENS!!! Now we can nominate the consuls, the tribunes, and the member of the Senate. Now this is what I call freedom.
