- Ji-li's father tells her she can not join the Liberation army arts academy.
- Ji-li and her best friend, An Yi, come across a crowd of people surrounding two young men trying to destroy a sign that represents four olds.
- Ji-li's classmates are assigning students to groups to harass teachers at their school. Purposely, Ji-li is assigned to harass her Aunt.
- In this scene, Ji-li's father tells her she can not join the Liberation army because of their family's bad political background. Ji-li feels sad about this and doesn't understand why. Her father refuses to tell her about their family's bad political background and leaves Ji-li empty handed.
- In this scene, Ji-li and An Yi, her best friend, come upon a large crowd. As they walk further in they notice two young men trying to destroy a sign related to the four olds. Another young man tells everyone to move out of his way because he is carrying an axe. He hits the sign with the axe and the crowd, including Ji-li, cheers.
- Ji-li is assigned to a group to harass her Aunt. She does not agree with her Aunt because of the way she dresses, but she is still worried about her Aunt seeing her so she pretends to tie her shoe until it is over.
