- Orange Juice sat up and looked for her family, just like Pi did. He was heartbroken. At sunset, the hyena bit pieces off the zebra. Sharks had tasted the blood and showed up around the boat.
- The zebra was dead in the morning. Pi stayed at the edge of the boat. The hyena began to yip and then, abruptly, jumped at Orange Juice, which was hit on the head. Pi shouted, but the poor animal knew nothing about fighting. The hyena killed the orang-utan.
- Hurrah for Orange Juice!
- Pi was sure he was next. He knew that he had to kill the hyena or it would kill him. When Pi was about to attack it, he saw Richard Parker's head and paws. They were huge.Pi realized he was on a lifeboat with a tiger.
- !!!
- Richard Parker stood on a bench in the middle of the boat. He killed the hyena, let go of it and looked to the sea. Then he slowly turned his head and looked straight at Pi.The tiger was beautiful and strong like a king.
- Pi saw his tooth, it was long. He was scared.
- I don't feel safe.
- Pi used the long rope to tie the raft to the lifeboat. The raft floated perfectly, so he jumped onto it. He saw the tiger eating the hyena on the boat, about thirty meters away.
- Some sharks came close, but they didn't attack Pi.
- Pi stood up on the raft and blew the whistle. Richard Parker roared and lifted his paw into the air, but he didn't jump at Pi to attack him. He was afraid. The training lesson went great.
- Richard Parker was happy. He made a noise through his nose that meant he felt friendly towards Pi. Pi wanted to show him he was the boss and he had whistles to train the tiger.
- I have to be the boss.
