I will toast to your long lasting life and health.
Why thank you for your kind gesture.
Ugh I am done with this man! Wait until I kill him then he will know I am an amazing mason.
Your a Mason?! haha I think not!!
Montresor I am just so happy that we are friends. I don't know what I'd do without you.
I hate this man with all my heart!!
Haha yes you will die but not from a cough...
This is an example of verbal irony because Montresor made a toast to Fortunato wishing him long lasting life and health. However, he plans to kill Fortunato and end his life.
I might die of this awful cough!!
Fortunato insulted Montresor when Fortunato laughed at Montresor. Montresor wanted Fortunato to be frightened when he told him that he was a Mason. This made Montresor angry and he soon would prove to Fortunato that he really was a good mason.
What is your family motto Montresor ?
Fortunato thinks that him and Montrestor are best friends, however the reader knows that Montrostor is not a big fan of Fortando and might put him in danger.
Your a mason?! haha...ok sure
Yes I am!! You want proof I will show you proof... (Monstador shows towel)
Fortunato is feeling a bit sick and has an awful cough. This foreshadows that something bad might happen to Fortunato . Later in the short story we then find out that Monstrador is planning to kill Fortanado.
This is an example of foreshadowing because Monstradors family motto is creepy and mysterious. However we also find out that Mostrador is insulted by Fortantos taking of his family motto and will punish Fortunato.
very interesting indeed
Its a golden foot crushing a snake.
How dare you insult my family!!
This is an example of foreshadowing because Mostrador is beginning to get annoyed with Fortunato because he does not believe what Monstrador is saying. However, the reader eventually finds out that Mostrador with have his breaking point and kill Fortunato.
