  • Tsar's Reforms
  • Bloody Sunday
  • Since Russia was so far behind in terms of industrialization, they didn't have as many progressive laws and policies to protect children from working or to making factories safe for the workers. IT also didn't help that there was little sanitation in the cities, and limited running water
  • World War I
  • In 1905, it was clear that many Russain citizens weren't happy, So Tsar Nicholas II made some reforms. He implemented freedom of expression, universal sufferage, and an elected legislative assembly name Duma. Though, despite the creation of this assembly, he still maintained a position of authoritative power.
  • 1917 Revolution
  • On 'Bloody Sunday', 150,000 workers petitioned the Tsar for better working conditions, and when thousands of them marched to deliver it, the soldiers assumed it to be a threat and killed 200. This brought about a revoltion filled with strikes and protests before it eventually failed.
  • Vladmir Lenin
  • In WWI, in protest to Tsar Nicholas II's rule, many soldiers left the battlefield to protest alongside striking workers, taking part in what was the 1917 revolution.
  • In the 1917 revolution, there were so many protesters across Petrograd that the Tsar had to abdicate the throne. Citizens destroyed and tore down his symbols of power as a celebration. A provisinal government was eventually formed, along with a worker's council called the Soviet.
  • Unfortunately, the provisinal government did not adress many citizen's concerns abou the war, which made room for Bolshevik Red Army's leader, Vladmir Lenin, to lead another revolution in 1917 after returning from exile. This time, soliders desert their positions to otherthrow the government so the Bolshevik could take control and createthe United Soviet Socialist Republic.
