- This is Tom and his wife, Mrs. Walker. They are a very unhappy couple.
- Tom went down a path in a swampy area trying to take a short cut back home and ended up finding a skull with a tomahawk in its head.
- Tom unexpectedily meets the devil and is not afraid.
- The devil offers Tom to have his body sold so he could earn gold. Tom decided not to until he goes home and his wife tells him to do it.
- Mrs. Walker tells Tom that she is going to find values. She takes a bag of their values without telling Tom. She never comes back. Tom wants the values she took with her.
- Tom decides to agree with the devils deal to do things for him, bad things. Since his wife took his values and is either dead or something happened to her. He ended up getting lots of money and became very stingy with it and tried to go to church regularly to forget what he had done.
