- The narrator reaches Ushers house and notices the change in appearance. This sets a mysterious mood.
- The narrator and Usher meet again, and the narrator notes the changes in his friend. He also catches a glimpse of Madeline.
- The narrator tries to distract Usher from overthinking everything and from worrying.
- The narrator and Usher go and see Madeline in their bedroom. She is found dead to her illness
- The narrator helps Usher entomb Madeline in a nailed coffin.
