- The morning after visiting Mr. Poe at the bank, the children went downstairs to discover that Count Olaf had made them breakfast: oatmeal with fresh raspberries on top.
- Count Olaf told the children that Mr. Poe had called him and in an attempt to include the children, he wants them to perform in his next play with him: The Marvelous Marriage.
- Count Olaf tells Violet, she will play the young woman that Count Olaf marries. Klaus and Violet agree than he must be up to something. They decide to visit Justice Strauss to see if they can figure out his plan.
