  • Lyddie is inside her cabin with her family and then a bear comes inside and ruins the food, furniture, and scares the family so Lyddie had to stand up to the bear. Character vs. Nature is shown in the quote above because it shows Lyddie's determination toward the bear and to show how the bear was going to be a threat to her home and family.
  • Diana wanted to speak out for better rights when women are working. Character vs. society is shown in the quote above because it shows that Diana is speaking out against the government and society for her idea to have better working conditions for women.
  • When Lyddie came back to the Tavern after leaving without the Mistress's permission. The Mistress got really mad and fired Lyddie. Lyddie chooses to be free and independent and to go to work at Lowell mills over waiting for the mistress to come around and continue working for Cutler's Tavern.
